Review
If you’re just starting out on piano and want something that won’t overwhelm you, the Crystals 61-Key Keyboard is a fantastic option. I got mine set up in a few minutes, and straight away it felt inviting — the keys have a nice responsive feel, light enough for beginners but still firm enough to build proper technique. I spent a few hours just messing around with the piano sound alone, and it was surprisingly satisfying for an entry-level keyboard.
What I really enjoyed was testing the learning modes. Following along with the built-in lessons, I could see how someone completely new could pick up songs without getting frustrated. The lessons give instant feedback, and I found myself instinctively tapping along with the rhythms, almost like having a mini piano teacher in the room. At one point, I even caught myself smiling when a chord progression actually sounded right on the first try — something that doesn’t happen often when you’re learning!
The keyboard’s sound quality is more than adequate for the price. The built-in speakers are clear, and you can feel the notes come through without needing extra amplification. I also tried connecting headphones for a late-night session, and it’s perfect if you live in a house with people sleeping or neighbours nearby. The microphone input was a fun bonus — I couldn’t resist singing along to a few of my favourite tunes while playing, which added a little “jam session” vibe to my practice.
I also appreciated the portability. It’s lightweight enough to move between rooms, and I can easily see a parent packing it up for lessons or a child carrying it to a friend’s house. Despite only having 61 keys, I didn’t feel limited — you can play a lot of songs, and for a beginner, this is more than enough. The extra rhythms and voices are great for experimenting; I spent some time layering sounds just for fun, pretending I was part of a little mini-orchestra in my living room.
