I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this keyboard because I love playing around with new features. Did you know that this keyboard lights up the keys to tell you what to play? How great is that? Let’s find out what this has to offer.

Sound

This isn’t a budget keyboard and for around £249 you would expect to get a good quality sound — and you do. I can confirm that the speakers are great and out of the many sounds I managed to test I was happy with them all. Of course, you can’t expect each voice to sound exactly like the real instrument, but this comes pretty close. I am amazed at how each year when a new model comes out that the manufacturers get closer and closer to the real thing.

With limited time I tested a bunch of the popular voices, starting with the piano and moving through strings, organs, guitars, flutes, and so on. They were all really good and I could happily see myself lose many hours playing along to the accompaniments on this keyboard. You can of course spend a lot more than this on a keyboard, but if you’re looking for a beginner keyboard that has great functionality for learning, then this is the perfect choice.

Touch and feel

The keys are easy to push down and make for a pleasant experience. As a piano player I am always surprised at how weird it feels at first to play on a keyboard, but also how easy it is too! Without weighted keys it can sometimes feel tricky to play fast, but this keyboard is meant to be fun to learn and enjoy. It doesn’t really matter too much about whether or not they are weighted — that’s what a digital piano is for.

Features

This is where this keyboard comes into its own. With nearly 622 different voices and 205 auto accompaniment styles, the EZ‑300 is packed with anything and everything. The whole idea of owning a keyboard is to play with different sounds and to sample lots of backing tracks — blues, rock, pop, dance, and so on. This has it all!

One of the most important features this keyboard has to offer is the light‑up keys. The EZ‑300 has 202 built‑in songs that you can play along with and the keys will light up to show you which ones to play. Not only that, but the song will stop and wait for you if you make a mistake or take a break. This is a great way to learn without having the pressure of trying to read music — although I would of course recommend it!

Price

This is one of the more expensive keyboards I’ve reviewed and tested, but it’s easy to see why. The most popular price point for a keyboard is around the £100 mark, and this fits well into many budgets, especially as a Christmas or birthday present. So because this comes in at £249 you may be wondering if it’s worth the extra money. This really depends on what you want a keyboard for.

If you want to buy a keyboard for your child as a present, then I would recommend considering a cheaper model than this if all you want is something simple. There are some great keyboards out there for less than £100 that would certainly satisfy a young beginner. But if your budget can stretch that bit more then you can take advantage of its main feature — which is the light‑up keys.

For adults who want a keyboard to start their journey, this is more likely to be in your budget and would be a sensible purchase. At this price point it offers a lot of value and thousands of hours of fun.
